Collaboration with Fotohof Archive: Domenig's stone house in Steindorf

I met the architect Günther Domenig by chance on his building site in 1989. Shortly after reading a magazine article about his eccentric building, I spontaneously decided to drop by out of curiosity, without making an appointment. We got talking and he showed me around the concrete sculpture. I started to expose a few color films with my Nikon under his eyes. He made fun of the minimalism of my equipment, but I should send photos... – From then on, I accompanied the stone house for about four years until 1994 as the building-shell progressed. Photos of this work were first published in 1991 in the Japanese magazine AtU ("Architecture and Urbanism", No. 254), and further publications followed.

During a retrospective research into the photographs taken at the time, l decided in 2023, in collaboration with the Fotohof archive, to re-edit the photographic material. In keeping with the provocative subject matter and its own visual effects, a new selection was scanned from the original negatives and printed in a small edition in black and white on matte paper. In contrast to my long-standing practice of color photography, this resulted in a group of monochrome works, formally characterized by perspective and detail.

The works will be shown at Fotohof, Salzburg, in October 2024

New Portfolio in EIKON #125

After showing a portfolio of my work in the #1 issue of EIKON magazine in 1991 I am happy to be featured after a break of 33 years with a 10-page portfolio in the recent issue of EIKON #125! In conversation with Reinhard Braun we speak about my new book-edition LESSMORE, published by BR-ED, the need of self-publishing and discuss photographic strategies analog vs. digital…

Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich

Some of my works from "Untitled (Berlin, 1990)" are currently installed in a group-show from their collection! The work was commissioned at the time by Siemens AG, Munich. - These are face-mounted chromogenic prints, 50x60cm. See more here.

BR-ED

BR-ED is a self-publishing house for editions from my photographic archive.

Since the late 1970s this has been continuously extended, first analog, since the 2010s in digital form. Various projects have already been exhibited and published, others are still to be discovered and processed. A research is thus directed towards earlier as well as current image stocks, contents and contexts can be seen in a new light! With cooperation partners from the artistic/creative/curatorial field I realize uniquely conceived, carefully produced editions of small print runs.
