Out Now! Joachim Brohm, Valentina Seidel: Trinity

Trinity. A new church in Leipzig: St Trinitatis by Schulz und Schulz architects. Photographs 2015-2012.

The consecration of a new church in May 2015 was the end of an odyssey for a Leipzig parish community that has lasted for over seventy years. With the construction of the new building by Schulz und Schulz architects, St Trinitatis has returned to the center of the city: prominently situated right across from the monumental town-hall built in 1905. The body of work comprises 120 photographs following the continuous changes at the construction-site.

The evolving new architecture also provides the backdrop for selections of portraits: teenagers celebrating their holy confirmation, workmen of multinational origin as well as the artists that were commissioned to develop works for the building. By integrating additional sequences of photographs from their artistic projects into the flow of images, Joachim Brohm and Valentina Seidel develop an unexpected and complex visual narrative, leading viewers beyond the boundaries of the documentary style.
